Vivekananda Netralaya Ramakrishna Mission Ashram, Dehradun Honoured for Transformative Contribution to Eye Care

Vivekananda Netralaya, Ramakrishna Mission Ashram, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, has been honoured for its outstanding contribution to eye care at the ACOIN (All India Ophthalmologists’ Co-Management Initiative Network) Silver Jubilee Celebration 2026, held at the New Town Convention Hall in Kolkata on September 25.

The award recognises the institution’s sustained efforts in providing accessible and quality eye care services to thousands of people every year. Vivekananda Netralaya Ramakrishna Mission Ashram, Dehradun performs nearly 18,000 cataract surgeries annually and provides eye care services to more than one lakh patients each year, making it an important centre for ophthalmic care in the region.

The honour was presented by Shri Ram Nath Kovind, 14th President of India, and Dr Ram Baran Yadav, the first President of Nepal. The award was received by Srimat Swami Asimatmananda Maharaj, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission, Dehradun. Several doctors and members of the institution’s medical team were also present at the ceremony.

Swami Asimatmananda Maharaj received the award on behalf of 1900 monks of the Ramakrishna Order and dedicated the recognition to the spiritual ideals that inspire the work of the Ramakrishna Mission. Speaking to News Sense, he said “All monks are working hard to fulfill the dream of Swami Vivekananda by selfless service activities We dedicate this Award to Sri Ramakrishna, Maa Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda, with whose inspiration we are doing this work. I would like to thank the organisers for acknowledging our work and efforts.”

The recognition at the ACOIN Silver Jubilee Celebration highlights the contribution of Vivekananda Netralaya to expanding access to eye care while carrying forward the Ramakrishna Mission’s tradition of service to society.
