Lockdown cannot deter the spirit of people, when it comes to the celebration of national spirit associated with the Independence Day. The country is celebrating its 73rd Independence Day and the national spirit is equally evident in New Town where the celebration began a day before with the felicitation of Corona Warriors.
New Kolkata Development Authority, NKDA felicitated Corona Warriors by presenting them with a memento and certificates. Speaking on the occasion NKDA Chairman, Debashish Sen, IAS said, “On Independence Day eve at seven wonders arena in Eco Park, we felicitated Covid Warriors (police, doctors, conservancy workers, volunteers and donors) who had helped us through the lockdown days of March, April, May, June, July, August. We also unveiled a mask on Christ the Redeemer to spread awareness“.
Apart from felicitating the Covid Warriors, NKDA also recognized Covid Survivors saluting their fight back. Children were also rewarded who won on-line contests during the lockdown period. The program ended with the chorus singing of National Anthem.
The Independence Day began with the hoisting of the national flag, followed by a Cycle Rally where nearly 100 participants from across New Town participated. The event was organised by CNG and NTFN. Speaking on the occasion, Samaresh Das of NTFN said, “apart from cycle rally we are honored with the felicitation of Covid Warriors by Covid survivors. 72 Covid warriors were felicitated including the cleaners, sanitization workers, ambulance drivers, post office staffs, mobile ATM team and Nurses of the local hospitals for their uninterrupted service during lockdown“.
People participating in the programs were highly spirited as they make a new pledge to make New Town and whole country free from the virus.
