Kolkata: Students of Jadavpur University’s Architecture Department are on a special mission and following the Swachh Bharat campaign, by facelifting the seating on campus, which until recently was considered unkempt.

The special drive was a part of a competition Annual NASA Design organised by the NASA India (National Association of Students of Architecture). This group of students participated in the zonal stage of the all-India competition- of turning a dirty place into a healthy and beautiful area by using minimal amount of money.

The team from Jadavpur, chose a shabby wall outside the campus and collected a total sum of INR 3000 as donation and contributed their pocket monies, thereby raising the amount to INR 6000. This amount was spent towards concrete seating followed by wall cleaning and beautification.

Pranay Karmakar, a 3rd year student of architecture while speaking to News Minute said “A 20 member team worked in the evenings for 3 consecutive days after classes in the University.“He also added “If we get special mention in the Annual NASA Design competition or in the Zonal NASA, then we will be eligible to participate at a national level competition organised by the Council of Architecture, India.”

The student team also made attempts to have the drain cleaned and planted trees in vacant spots to make the area look attractive and beautiful.

The students are not going to stop their ‘plan of action’ with the completion of the competition, but are moving on to beautify other places in the city requiring their attention. Turning a dirty area into a clean and green environment is indeed a great achievement. News Minute salutes this attitude and wishes them the best in all their future endeavors.
