Amity University Kolkata Welcomes 2,500 New Students with a Blend of Tradition and Modernity
On the afternoon of 18 August 2025, Amity University Kolkata formally welcomed a vibrant new batch of 2,500 students at its Orientation Programme held at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre. The event, marked by eloquent speeches and inspiring messages from distinguished guests, set the tone for the university’s new academic session.
Dressed uniformly in Amity’s signature colors, the incoming students and their parents experienced firsthand the university’s commitment to staying rooted in India’s cultural heritage while embracing modern education. The programme began with a Vedic Hawan, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the Lamp of Knowledge to the strains of Saraswati Vandana—symbolizing wisdom, learning, and growth.
The dignitaries on the panel included Prof. (Dr.) Ankur Ganguly; Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Ashok Kumar Srivastava of Amity University Kolkata; U. Ramachandran, Senior Vice-President of Amity Education Group; and Dr. Preeti Sahni, Assistant Vice-President (Marketing, Outreach & Admission) of Amity Education Group. Chancellor Dr. Atul Chauhan conveyed his message in spirit.
Prof. (Dr.) Srivastava opened the session by celebrating Amity University Kolkata’s decade-long journey of excellence and its global recognition. Assuring parents of the university’s integrity, he highlighted its exceptional faculty, world-class infrastructure, and welcoming campus environment. He urged students to embrace lifelong learning, leaving them with the resonant message: “Never stop learning.”
Echoing his sentiments, U. Ramachandran spotlighted the Amity Education Group’s expanding presence, including the recent launch of Amity University Hyderabad, its twelfth private university in India. He engaged the audience with the “Amity Clap,” reinforcing the spirit of unity, and lauded Kolkata for the unparalleled presence of parents at the event. He invited alumni and current students to share their journeys—among them a practicing High Court Advocate who credited Amity for her success and chose to return for further studies, saying: “Amity is my foundation.”
Dr. Ganguly underscored the importance of discipline in education and life, while Dr. Sahni encouraged students to transform entitlement into true eligibility through hard work and dedication. She promised, “Let’s make this an unforgettable journey.” Reaffirming Amity’s strict zero-tolerance policy against ragging, Ramachandran assured students and parents that the campus would remain a safe and welcoming second home.
In his concluding remarks, Chancellor Dr. Chauhan emphasized Amity’s strong research culture and its mission to nurture students into accomplished professionals. “Our achievements are born of love, and with love, we will build the future,” he said.
The audience also heard personal testimonies. Tuhin Mukherjee, a Senior Data Architect at Capgemini and among the oldest new students, shared why he chose Amity for his PhD: “Its vast research opportunities, particularly in AI and Machine Learning, made Amity my first choice.”
Parents, too, expressed confidence. Nupur Mukherjee praised Amity’s holistic approach to education, while another parent from Asansol felt reassured by the university’s strong stance against ragging and its promise of cultural exposure.
Faculty members shared similar optimism. Dr. Sushmita Pandit of the Amity School of Communication said, “We aim to sharpen the skills students already have and guide them to apply those skills more professionally. This journey will enrich both students and teachers.”
With curiosity, ambition, and enthusiasm in abundance, the Class of 2025 is set to embark on a journey of academic excellence, personal growth, and global opportunities.
