Kolkata, January 1: The Kolkata Police rose to the occasion to ensure a safe and hassle-free New Year celebration as the city welcomed 2025 with immense enthusiasm. Deploying around 4,500 personnel across the city, the police force left no stone unturned to maintain law and order, with senior officers, from Deputy Commissioners (DC) to the Commissioner of Police (CP), patrolling the streets throughout the night.
Special attention was given to Park Street, a popular destination for revelers, where traffic congestion is a perennial challenge during such occasions. To address this, the police implemented strategic measures, including real-time traffic management and enhanced coordination. A dedicated WhatsApp group was created among police personnel to ensure seamless communication.
Drones were deployed for aerial surveillance, providing a bird’s-eye view of the crowd and traffic, while on-ground officers used whistles to direct the flow of people and vehicles. For public safety, people were restricted from walking on roads, ensuring smooth vehicular movement.
These efforts by the Kolkata Police not only minimized disruptions but also ensured a safe environment for thousands of citizens celebrating across the city. Their meticulous planning and execution set an example of how technology and teamwork can be effectively combined to handle large-scale events.
The New Year celebrations concluded without any major untoward incidents but with more than 200 arrests.
