A viral post circulating on social media claims that the person seen in a picture with former RG Kar Hospital Principal, Dr. Sandip Ghosh, is a civic volunteer. After receiving requests to verify this claim, we conducted a fact-check.
First, we reached out to officials from the office of the Principal at RG Kar Hospital and Medical College. They confirmed that the individual in the photo is Prasun Chatterjee, the former Personal Attendant of Dr. Sandip Ghosh, not a civic volunteer.
Additionally, we contacted the Kolkata Police to verify the identity of the person in the picture. They confirmed that the individual is not associated with the Kolkata Police as a civic volunteer.
Based on these findings, we can confirm that while the picture is authentic, the claim made on social media regarding the person’s identity is false. Therefore, this information should be classified as disinformation.
