The birth anniversary celebration held at Mahajati Sadan in Kolkata marks a great significance for the organization, providing an opportunity to pay tribute to the visionary leadership and values instilled by Sri Bhagavan over the past 35 years.
The day commenced with special prayers from the Vedas for global peace. A daylong seminar on Vedanta and its implications on modern society, focusing on the teachings of Sri Bhagavan, was organized and attended by diverse sections of society. Renowned saints and scholars presented their views, emphasizing the relevance of this spiritual wisdom in helping individuals lead good, healthy, and peaceful lives amidst the stresses of modern society.
The event featured various activities showcasing the founder’s contributions and legacy. Eminent scholars and saints paid tribute through speeches, poems, and songs dedicated to Sri Bhagavan. An exhibition highlighting the founder’s achievements and milestones was held. A colorful road show, attended by 500 people, paraded through Central Avenue, creating electrifying moments with drum beats and music, as people chanted the name of Bhagavan and held posters showcasing his teachings.
In addition to these celebrations, the International Vedanta Society published its Bengali magazine, “Shono Biswabashi,” and English magazine, “Sattyena Pantha,” filled with teachings from the Upanishads and insights into the life and teachings of Sri Bhagavan. Two books were also launched: “Sri Bhagavan Uvacha – Part-2” in Hindi and “Bhagavan Bachanamtrita” in Bengali. Sri Anup Srivastab translated the book “Sri Bhagavan Uvacha” from Bengali to Hindi, while Swami Sacchidananda articulated the teachings of Sri Bhagavan over the years in the book “Bhagavan-bachanammrita.” These publications showcase the traditional values and wisdom of India.
On this auspicious occasion, three foreign women embraced monastic life. Miss Laura Troop from London, UK became Brahmacharini Janhavi Maa, Miss Froukje Kokke from the Netherlands became Brahmacharini Prava Maa, and Brahmacharini Meera Maa from Indonesia, a passport holder of Hong Kong, became Sannyasini Sradhyaprana Mataji. They are key individuals dedicating their lives to spreading the teachings of Sri Bhagavan and Upanishads overseas.
As part of their commitment to social responsibility, IVS organized a community outreach program. Youth members reached out to students in the interior Gangasagar village, distributing woolen jackets and encouraging them to pursue education. These activities not only honored the founder’s philanthropic spirit but also reinforced IVS’s mission of creating responsible citizens.
