Fact Check: Injured CISF Jawan in Sitalkuchi

The fourth phase of election in West Bengal witnessed widespread violence in Sitalkuchi constituency under Mathabhanga subdivision in Cooch Behar district of West Bengal, turning the constituency into a battleground claiming four lives during firing by CISF personnel on April 10, a picture has been doing round on social media with claim that a CISF Jawan has been injured during a mob attack as claimed in the official version.

We at News Sense received the photograph with request to find out the truth behind the picture. We started our investigation and did a simple Google Reverse Image Search. The search took us to a news report published by Dainik Jagran, published on 10th April 2021.

The report says, ASI SP Sharma of CISF was on duty at the CISF camp at Bhimakanali, where he was attacked and injured by a langur and left him with a deep wound in his cheek. He was rushed to Baghmara Regional Hospital from where the Central Hospital has been referred. For the past several days there has been panic of langurs around the area. Hence we can say that the image is real but the context in which the image has been used is Fake, thus the information is Fake.
