We have seen several initiatives, where waste materials are turned into something useful, one such initiative is taking shape in the City of Joy, where waste tyres are being used to developed a full-fledged public park in Esplanade, in the heart of Kolkata city.
The idea behind the park is to convert waste into art. Nothing is waste and anything that is not being used can take the shape of any art form, that is the message with which the unique park is coming up.
The West Bengal Transport Corporation, the brain behind the project has been working tirelessly for past few months to make this park a reality, were artworks in abundance will soon going to greet the visitors. The park is fully made of scrap and defective tyre parts, which were lying as waste for years in the various bus depots of the state.
The inhouse team of WBTC have been working to convert the waste tyres into eye pleasing colorful amalgamation. Once completed the park will be another small addition to the landmarks that the city adorns.
The Tyre Park is coming up at Esplanade, opposite the Tram control room. It would also have a small cafe, music and will have a small space for people to sit and relax and also enjoy the various craftsmanship made up of only tyres.
Speaking about the initiative, Rajanvir Kapur, MD, WBTC said, “It will be an island of peace in an otherwise very crowded area“.
From Esplanade, the people can also ride on the Tram Library that runs on Esplanade – Shyambazar route. Also they can see Smarnika nearby, which has some old tram archives.
