A misleading image has been doing round on social media platforms mainly on Facebook, claiming that the newly renovated Asansol Municipal Corporation building’s sign board doesn’t have a Bengali title and carrying only English, Urdu and Hindi titles.
Several Facebook Posts were generated with the claim that the Corporation has intentionally removed, Bengali title, encouraging other languages in Bengal. The posts were provocative and misleading, so we at News Sense started the investigation.
We spoke to Mayor of Asansol, Shri Jitendra Tiwari, who elaborately described the whole incident, saying “We have recently renovated, the Municipal Corporation building and put a sign board in Bengali, later some of our member wanted it in another languages, as we live in society were cross section of people lives. Keeping that it mind we have put up another board, just below the Bengali sign board in three other languages“. He further added, “this is how some members of another political party started sharing the sign board, crying injustice and humiliation of Bengali language, which is actually not the case”.
