Mumbai based Chemical Company – Nanova has claimed to have developed an antimicrobial coating which can prevent any kind of virus including the Coronavirus from spread for 90 days from the day it has been applied on the surfaces of a house.
As Coronavirus is a highly contagious virus which is capable of spreading from person to person and also when a person touches a open surface that has the virus on it. Although this virus does not grow on any non-living surfaces but can remain viable on metal, glass, wood, fabrics and plastic surfaces for several hours together.
Speaking to News Sense, Founder of Nanova, Dr Swapan Ghosh says, “The antimicrobial coating that we have developed contains the cocktails of non-migratory QUATs and positively charged AgNPs as bioactive nano particles and dispersing this into binder polymers.” He further says “This coating has proven test reports on protection against the bacteria pathogens upto 99.9% as per the global standard JIS Z2801. The coated surface also has evidence to work effectively against fungi 21 and algae pathogens.”
The product has to be applied on the surfaces using a roller brush or spray and left to dry for 24 hours, after which it can be used. This polymer should be reapplied every 3 to 4 months. Though this coating shows complete disablement of various pathogenic bacteria already based on scientific report, however tests are being conducted at South India Textile Research Association (SITRA), Coimbatore to establish efficiency in the deactivation of COVID-19.
Nanova has sent its findings with the antimicrobial coating to the laboratories of United States and Britain and are waiting for the results, which can ensure its potentiality of saving a lots of lives.
