In view of cyclone likely to form and affect sea off West Bengal and Odisha, the coast guard regional headquarter (Northeast) at Kolkata has initiated various measures. All out efforts have been made by the Coast Guard in the maritime states of West Bengal and Odisha in coordination with state administration and fisheries departments.
Coast Guard being the nodal agency for coordination of maritime search and rescue operations including assistance to fisherman at sea, advised fishermen not to venture into sea till improvement in weather condition.
The Indian Coast Guard ships and aircraft on patrol are also been directing fishing boats/dinghies operating at sea to return harbour for safety, besides regular warning through coastal surveillance network in local language by the ICG personnel.
According to weather forecast, light to moderate rainfall are likely to take place over Andaman & Nicobar Islands on May 15 and 16. Coastal Odisha is likely to experience light to moderate rainfall with heavy falls at a few places on the following days starting, May 18 and heavy to very heavy falls at a few places of the state on May 19. Coastal districts of the Gangetic West Bengal is likely to experience light to moderate rainfall with heavy falls at a few places on 19th and heavy to very heavy falls at a few places over West Bengal on 20th.
