Fact Check: Ministry of Tourism hasn’t issued any such order

A circular has been doing rounds on social media platforms that in the wake of ongoing lockdown because of the Pandemic COVID19, Ministry of Tourism has issued an order which says that all hotels, restaurants, and resorts in India will remain closed till 15th October 2020.

We at News Sense found the information misleading first because of the design of the letter and also content therein without clear signatories, so we decided to find the truth behind the information.

On investigation we found that the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India has already cleared the doubts, saying the information in the said viral message is fake and cleared that no such circular and notification has been issued by the Ministry of Tourism. Moreover, the Ministry has also informed that Cyber Crime Unit, Mumbai Police has initiated an investigation into the fake news that is being circulated in @tourismgoi’s name. Respective authorities will take action against guilty individuals, including but not limited to the initiation of criminal proceedings under relevant laws.

Further, we found, that Press Information Bureau has also clarified on 8th April 2020, that no such notification has been issued by the Ministry of Tourism through a Tweet.

Going by the above mentioned verification we have come to the conclusion that the circular that has been doing rounds on the social media platform is Fake.

Claim: Ministry of Tourism has issued a notice, that all restaurants, resorts, and hotels will remain closed till 15th October 2020.

Conclusion: Ministry of Tourism says no such notification has been issued by the Ministry and the information is Fake.
