New Town Celebrates Basanta Utsav and International Women’s Day with Colorful Programmes

The Holi celebrations in New Town began with colors and songs of Rabindranath Tagore at Rabindra Tirtha, where International Acclaimed Danseuse Mamata Shankar and her dance troupe ‘Mamata Shankar Dance Company’ performed with beautifully decorated dance drama followed by playing of Holi maintaining the sanctity and hygiene as specified by NKDA Chairman Mr. Debashish Sen, IAS.

The day was full of happenings, at the start of the day School Children between the age group of 5 to 15 years played Phool Dol (Flower Holi) comprised of colorful flower petals with Police Personals at New Town Police Station, as a mark of respect and gratitude towards them.

Police personals are deprived of the festivity because of their duties and responsibilities towards society and therefore the event which was organized by Gingerbread House Ind. a chain of preschool & daycare, Newtown Branch in association with ‘New Town Forum and Bidhan Nagar City Police involved little kids to play with them.

The day also witnesses the start of the New Town Chess Club by New Town Forum, the club is an initiative of the Chess enthusiasts from New Town. From now on every Saturday and Sunday Chess enthusiasts will meet below Axis mall Bridge to play chess.

The club is also organizing a Chess Championship on 6th and 7th June 2020, where participants from different chess clubs from Kolkata and nearby areas are going to participate. The main aim behind this initiative is to bring the next generation back to the ground from their drawing rooms, mobile, and games.

At the end of the day, a wonderful program was organized for the senior citizens at Snehodiya where International Women’s Day was observed, felicitating the senior citizens of the society along with a cultural program in the presence of NKDA Chairman Mr. Debashish Sen and Mrs. Urmila Sen.

On this special occasion, members of the New Town Forum took an oath to stand by everyone including Women and Senior Citizens of the Society at the time need and emergency.
