Today India has achieved the milestone of being the largest sugar producing country in the world surpassing Brazil. However, to maintain its status as largest sugar producing country, the industry will have to change its process from double sulphitation to raw/refined sugar. This will help the industry not only to capture export markets but also meet bulk consumers’/beverages requirement in the country as well”.
Mr. Awasthi further added thatthe game changer for the Indian Sugar Industry has been the Govt of India’s new Bio-Fuel Policy – 2018 which allows production of ethanol through B heavy molasses as well as with the direct sugarcane syrup for blending with petrol.
