The first Lokpal of India, Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose addressing a gathering said, how Human Rights stay with a person during his life time and how we as a society should try to be as humane as possible. He also said that sitting in the court and looking into law is a practice but the decision comes from the heart with consideration to the law.

Amity Law School under the aegis of Amity University Kolkata has organised its first National Seminar on Human Rights and administration of Justice on 13thApril, 2019. The ceremony was graced by the first Lokpal of India, Justice P.C. Ghose and other dignitaries including Justice Bibek Chaudhuri, Justice(Dr.) Sambuddha Chakrabarti of Calcutta High Court. Dr. R. Venkata Rao, Vice Chancellor of National Law University Bangalore, Dr. Manoj K. Sinha, Director, Indian Law Institute New Delhi and Mr. Naparajit Mukherjee,IPS and member of West Bengal State Human Rights Commission.

The ceremony began with watering a plant by the dignitaries and an invocation to Lord Krishna by one of the students of Amity Law School. This was followed by the felicitation of dignitaries by the Vice Chancellor of Amity University, Prof. Dr. Dhurubojyoti Chattopadhyay, Vice President of Amity University, Mr. Vipin Sharma, and Head of Institution of Amity Law School Prof. Dr. Manik Chakraborty.

Throughout the seminar the dignitaries spoke about the importance of Human Rights , especially for women and children and how human rights and duties are interlinked. It was also mentioned several times that upholding human rights is not just the responsibility of the state.

This seminar is intended to provide a platform for a discussion, debate and advanced thinking on the challenges faced by Human Rights. The objective of the seminar is to address key aspects and themes in the field which connect to our turbulent times and promise to promote a lively engagement and discussion.
