It was a completely unpredictable match between Jahanvi Bakshi and Khushi Hooda who engaged in what can be only called a neck to neck competition. In the rounds played towards the beginning, Khushi was 2 down but it was in the 17th and 18th hole that the game changed for her! In the 17th hole she successfully played a 30-yard pitch, and on the 18th hole, she shot hit a 17 feet putt which was where the magic worked. Finally, Khushi won by 1 up over Jahanvi.
Khushi Hooda was the youngest golfer who played in this tournament and in a brief conversation with she spoke about her journey through this tournament – “The only goal which set before every tournament is that I have to win. It was a very tough competition for me, and Jahanvi has been playing so well so it feels like an achievement!”
About her plans for the near future, she says, “I have to appear for a junior’s tournament next in Bangalore. I have also missed my exams but my school has been so supportive that they have allowed me to sit for my tests after I go back!”
While speaking to Jahanvi, she spoke about how this tournament has been a learning experience for her, “The journey through this tournament has been tremendous. It has taught me a lot. I still have a lot of things to learn! Of course, I won many matches at first but Khushi has been a tough competitor. One is a winner and one is a learner – Khushi was the winner while I got to be the learner!”
The Chairperson of the Ladies Committee at IGU, Mrs. Nandita Rao, said during the prize distribution, “We had a great tournament and such an interesting one! These two girls have played absolutely brilliant golf. I would love to thank the Tollygunge Club for giving us a lovely course which was in excellent condition for which the tournament could go on smoothly.“
