Kolkata witness the success of Mini Maker Faire, which is the first of its kind event where innovators from across the country to showcased their creative innovations. In Kolkata, the Institute of Engineering and Management and IEM Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Cell (IEDC) made Mini Maker Faire possible in association with University of Engineering and Management.
The event was the first maker faire in Eastern India and the third in India, where over 200 projects and more than 800 exhibitors, innovators and entrepreneurs, registered from across the country. Speaking to News Sense, Prof. Avijit Bose, Head IEM IEDC, DST, Govt of India, Chief Coordinator, Kolkata Mini Maker Faire said, “We have over 200 projects and more than 800 exhibitors, innovators and entrepreneurs who have already registered from all over the country. Makers include students from the biggest institutions of the country like the IITs to small-scale artisans and sculptors from the rural parts”.

Innovative models like mechanical air-cooler, remote surveillance system, smart home, deep dream Gan, illuminstick, self- assembly, Biped, RL chess, automatic goal keeper, robot, Laser sweeper, Triaxis robotic arm etc were the models for demonstration and exhibition. Also there were DIY products, games for cause, quick tattoo parlour were there on exhibition.
Globally it is an initiative by Make Magazine, New York Maker Faire gives platform to budding creative minds to showcase their unique talents and leave the world in awe. It gives an opportunity to model-makers, scientific minds and passionate hearts to bring forth their models and ideas and leave a mark in the society.
Maker Faire is a place where science, arts and technology all come together. Language, profession or culture nothing serves as a barrier here. All one needs is an idea that’s creative, credible and original and the stage is all theirs.
