NGO Sahay celebrated its 29th foundation day as Sankalp 2018 with daylong cultural event and felicitation of heroes prepared by Sahay recently. Sahay is a Kolkata based NGO working in the field of children welfare since 1989 by providing support to the underprivileged children in the areas of health, education, empowerment and employment. Nearly 30000 people are benefitted by various programmes of Sahay, which works in collaboration with Children International.
The foundation day is celebrated with cultural and educational programmes like magic show on science and its logic, folk dance and music. An exhibition by the students of SAHAY with innovative games was on display.
Brojo is associated with Sahay since his childhood. He is a graduate and is well established in his career in the hospitality sector, he also has started his own NGO named ‘My Dream Foundation’ in 2014 to help others like him. Jinnat a successful graduate works at Cafe Coffee Day and as a field officer of Sahay of the Hazra community centre now has his two medical stores in the year 2012 and 2017 respectively. Sujata, at present employed as an assistant to the marketing manager at TATA Motors and owner of a beauty salon holds a diploma in yoga and certified physiotherapist with the help of the scholarship programs.
They are not the only few, there are 24 such stories of determination, hard work and support from Sahay launched in the form of a book “Dare to Dream”. They are still associated with Sahay and voluntarily working for the organisation, which prepared them all.
In the book, Sahay have attempted to provide additional insights into the lives of these youths and find out the changes that can be achieved through the programs and interventions. The stories are of the children, who are in the sponsorship program and they also shared how they have applied their learning to overcome their challenges.
The foundation day event was attended by Sonia Bhattacharjee, Chairman and board of director 2018 of Calcutta International School, Sandipto Bose, practicing advocate of High Court and member of Board and treasurer of Sahay, Ranjit Mukherjee, board member and president of Sahay, SV Raman, a civil engineer who worked as a deputy director of cultural department of Max Muller Bhawan for 35 years and also a member of Film Society.
Malika Singh, Director of Sahay thanked all for being part of Sahay. While speaking to News Sense she said, “Sahay-Children International believe in ushering the change a child want to see in them, there by making this earth a beautiful planet to live in”. She also thanked all the parents and guardians for understanding the importance of the programs and its implications on their children’s future.
Sahay in India works in collaboration with International NGO, Children International. Since 1936, Children International has been involved in improving the lives of impoverished children and families around the world. Through children international’s sponsorship program, more than 300000 children in 11 countries including India, Chile, Republic, Ecuador, Mexico, Zambia grow up to be healthy, educated and self reliant adults.
