Governor Awards Medals to NCC Cadets

The Governor of West Bengal, Shri Keshari Nath Tripathi, awarded the Governor’s Medal to 55 cadets belonging to West Bengal and Sikkim Directorate of NCC for their outstanding performance during the year 2017-18, at a scintillating ceremony held at Raj Bhawan in Kolkata on 7th February 2018. Select cadets of Army, Navy, and Air Force who excelled in various activities were awarded at the ceremony that was attended by a large number of proud parents and relatives. Some of the activities included Shooting, Snap shooting, Aero-modelling, Sailing expedition, Marching contingent etc.

2-2-300x200 Governor Awards Medals to NCC CadetsRecounting the achievements of the cadets, Maj Gen K T Sreekumar, ADG, West Bengal and Sikkim mentioned that during the recent Republic Day Camp held in New Delhi, West Bengal and Sikkim Directorate was adjudged fifth out of a total of 17 NCC participating contingents, and that this was an improvement over last year by two numbers.

Cadets from this Directorate had won three gold, three silver and one bronze medal at the All India Mavlankar National Shooting Championships during the year. One girl cadet was awarded by the Prime Minister for her film on ‘Swachta se Siddhi’ National competition during Sep 17. One male cadet had won the Raksha Mantri’s Medal for being the best overall NCC cadet.

2-2-300x200 Governor Awards Medals to NCC CadetsIn the one past year, the cadets have crossed maby new milestones. They rosw to the heights of Mt. Everest, soared into the blue skies in newly acquired virus micro light aircrafts, carried out Para jumps, successfully sailed the Hoogly from Farakka to Kolkata in 10days over a distance of 416kms. Over 65000 cadets carried out extensive cleaning of adopted villages and slums and prominent monuments. They constructed toilets, donated blood and spread the message of flagship programs of the Government amongst the citizens.NCC has played a very important role in effectively spreading the message of various Goverment schemes like Digital India, Beti Bachao- Beti Padhao, Swachhta Abhiyaan etc.

Out of total strength of over one lakh cadets, 55 cadets are being awarded ‘the Governor’s Medal’ which will act as a Beacon to inspire others to imbibe NCC’s motto of ‘Discipline and Unity’ into our lives. Major General Sreekumar thanked the Government of West Bengal for whole heartedly supporting the cause of the NCC in the state.
