Lamp Lighting Ceremony of VIII batch of 30 Nursing Cadets of College of Nursing was held on 28th December 2017 at the Command Hospital (Eastern Command ) Kolkata. Maj Gen Atul Bajpai, Commandant was the Chief Guest on the occasion.The traditional lamp was lit by Brig Sonali Ghosal, Principal Matron, Eastern Command. Then the divine light was passed on to the students by the teachers, followed by taking the Nightingale’s Pledge.
Lamp lighting is held as a tribute to Florence Nightingale “The Lady with the Lamp”. She was the leader and the pioneer of modern Nursing. The nursing profession displays selfless service, sacrifice, trial, adventure, triumphs and unconditional love. Lamp lighting ceremony is a significant event in the life a student nurse. Thirty students were enrolled for the BSc Nursing course on 01 Oct 2017.
This ceremony marks the successful completion of 3 months of initial training and donning the nurse’s uniform for the first time, symbolizing their readiness to undertake this noble profession. These Nursing Cadets will be commissioned into the Military Nursing Service after successful completion of four years of training under the West Bengal University of Health Sciences, Kolkata.The Chief Guest in his address urged the budding Nightingales to uphold the dignity and professional standards of Military Nursing Service.
